Tropical Moscow. Narratives of Deep Time in Nineteenth-Century Russia
Abstract
The article focuses on the vast topic of geology as it appears in various texts in Russian literature of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as in art. Among other matters, Theory of Earth, “geognosy” and “stratigraphy” are analyzed along with a large number of literary examples and intercultural parallels. The article includes several historical illustrations.
