The Value of Student Writing as Reading

Abstract

Professors often do not consider the student writing they commission in their courses as valuable reading material, viewing it instead as "practice" or as "mere apprentice work." This essay argues that student work is often informative and enlightening and suggests ways in which instructors can approach student work as worthwhile reading.
